Why Aren't Their Best Sellers Our Best Sellers?

Most, if not all toyshops have a Best Sellers listing on their website. So, when I was building the Little Shop of Knowledge website, it was only natural that I should include our own best sellers on the front page. Obviously, until you've been trading for a while, you don't actually know what your best sellers are, so I waited until we'd built up a picture of what was flying off the shelves and what was lead ballooning, then added our Some of Our Best Sellers images with links.

Out of interest, I then went and checked some of the other sites, just to see how ours compared with theirs. That's when I found that their best sellers, for the most part, coincided with what I knew to be our non-starters.

What were we doing? Were we just plain no good at marketing our worst sellers, or were the others highlighting qualities we'd missed?

Whatever.

So now, I've ditched the Best Sellers. Why would you want to follow other folks' preferences, anyway?

I'll tell you what you'd be like if you were a follower of fashion in the UK:

  • You'd live in a house named The Cottage
  • You'd have a cat called Molly and one called Felix
  • You'd have a dog called Max
  • At your wedding, you'll listen to Lonestar singing Amazed
  • At your funeral, your pals will be shuffling their feet, listening to James Blunt singing Goodbye My Lover
  • You'd have your friends in stitches every time you said "I don’t believe it", or "Yeah, but, no, but . . ."
  • You'd have McVitie's Digestive biscuits with your coffee
  • Your local would be The Crown, or The Red Lion
I could go on, but you get my point.

So, when you're buying toys, don't follow the herd - make your own choices, based on what you know of your child's likes and dislikes. If you want any advice or information, you could always try emailing us at the address on the Contact Us Page.
